A Mathematical Approach to Design

The quality of speech may be measured by a standard known as Speech Transmission Index (STI). STI predicts speech intelligibility or the comprehension of the listeners words, syllables, and sentences. The criteria has a numeric value but is also characterized as BAD – EXCELLENT.  The STI standard is published as IEC 60268-16:2020.  

Our design tool incorporates STI calculations into our designs to predict audio quality in a video conferencing room.  Estimating audio performance is a helpful tool to evaluate the selection of all in one video bar systems versus the use of table or ceiling microphones.   Our applications also incorporate AVIXA formulas and technical specifications published by the manufacturer of the hardware.
